With the theme of ‘Resilience Dividend: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies’, this year, the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) conference took place from 13 to 17 May 2019 in Geneva.
Participating in the conference, ActionAid calls all parties to recognize the potential of transboundary cooperation and take urgent action to ensure women and young people’s leadership, take human rights-based approach for transformational resilience building in all contexts, Increase public finance for DRR, Address disasters, conflict and climate change impacts at national level and localization and shifting the power.
Ahead of the official start of the conference, ActionAid and Huairou Commission jointly organized a two-day workshop in Geneva focusing on grassroots-led knowledge and practices advancing resilient development.
The workshop ended with a call to the GPDRR for mainstreaming women-led disaster risk reduction in line with the Sendai Framework into development and climate change resilience for our communities, at least 5% of resilience and climate change funds be provided directly to grassroots women organisations and ensure grassroots women leaders are in every decision and policy making space.
