PRAGATI (Promoting Resilience and Gender-Responsive Adaptation)

The PRAGATI (progress in Bengali) is being implemented at Ramjannagar, Shayamnagar, Satkhira, which is one of the most climate vulnerable areas in Bangladesh seeks to empower climate-vulnerable women and families to take lead minimizing their vulnerabilities with respect to facing off disasters through developing community-led early warning and preparedness mechanism, securing their livelihoods and agriculture, and dealing with salinity, including fresh water for drink etc. The initiative is intended to enhance their adaptive capacities, establish safe environments, and build community resilience, with a special focus on livelihood skills. It also aims to challenge social stereotypes and promoting justice. By establishing a dedicated Climate Resilience Hub, the project creates a space where women and families in the center of change, transforming vulnerability into leadership, ensuring that every woman in the community has access to life-saving early warnings and resources to protect herself, habitation, livelihood, and future.

Objectives

Promote CRSA (Climate Resilient Sustainable Agriculture): Support smallholder women farmers with necessary inputs to adopt CRSA practices, helping maintain agricultural production and ensure food security.

Resilience Hubs: Establishing a gender-responsive multifunctional hub for public services and climate information.

Protection Services: Strengthening wellbeing services and improving access to critical protection for women and vulnerable groups.

Inclusive Planning: Mobilising the community for participatory livelihood, training and input support for the PWD (person with disabilities) and climate-related risk reduction planning.

Governance & Advocacy: Launching advocacy campaigns and establishing Local Advisory Committees for Change Action (LACCA) to bridge the gap between young leaders and officials.

Project Key Outputs & Impact

1,500 households provided with actionable climate information, advisories, and early warning systems.

3,000 direct female participants empowered through climate-resilient livelihoods.

• Environmental Restoration: 3.2 hectares of arable land and 2 ponds maintained under climate-resilient management.

30% increase in women and girls reporting improved access to critical protection services.

50% increase in community knowledge regarding climate impacts, gender issues, and public service rights.

25% participation rate of women and persons with specific needs increased in community decision-making processes.
