Child Sponsorship Unit of ActionAid Bangladesh celebrated ‘Child Rights Week 2020’ at its 15 LRPs under the theme ‘Creating a new world with the children’ during October 5-11 announced by the Government of Bangladesh. In this pandemic situation, the way of celebrating Child Rights Week this time was different than before.
We followed all safety measures for our children. According to the planning, a total of 4 activities were selected to implement at the community level including drawing and essay competition on covid-19, essay competition on preventing child marriage, awareness-raising sessions by child forum, and youth group on preventing child marriage, and distribution of exercise book for children.
Children participated in drawing competition; essay competition; awareness sessions on COVID-19, Child Rights as a part of the Child Rights Week celebration. Children shared their thoughts on how to prevent child marriage through their writings. They also wrote on the COVID-19 pandemic, Child Rights.
However, giving priority to children’s health and wellbeing during the Corona Virus pandemic, children competitions were taken place in individual child’s homes and some cases with the gathering of a small group of not more than 10. A total of 5614 children (3799 girls and 1815 boys) and 4262 youth and adult participants have participated in 15 LRPs to celebrate this year's Child Rights Week.
